Resume September 23, 2008

rlterry @ 8:18 pm

Here lies my boring resume. As I am still young and inexperienced to a degree in the ways of the world, there are several elements that are lacking, you know, like the time I worked in close quarters with that famous writer guy who’s constantly drinking tea and speaking with an English accent. Sadly I haven’t met that guy yet, or had the benefit of learning and working with him, but I will, or maybe I’ll just hang out with his female writer counterpart, the one who likes to write about that kid and the pig school.

But here is what I do have, which isn’t a lot, but it’s mine and it’s the truth without embellishments. And for me, not adding those decorative elements is sometimes hard to do.

Work Experience

Currently: University of Oklahoma’s Bizzell Library – Government Documents

Front Desk Clerk

My primary purpose is to retreive government documents for our patrons. I shelve and organize documents as well as check them out and in. I also answer the telephone and work on any other tasks and/or projects assigned to me. For example, before the Christmas holiday I helped create decorations and invitations for the library’s annual party.

Barnes & Noble
405-755-1155

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
09/05 – 08/08 (The last two years I only worked seasonally during the times when I wasn’t attending OU).

Bookseller
This position entailed cashiering, customer service (answering phones, helping customers find books and ordering books), and shelving books.

One particularly memorable experience I had while working here was when I worked the midnight party for the seventh Harry Potter book. Never before had I seen so many people in a book store. It was so much fun, except for the cleaning up part. But, I did get to dress up like the Ford Anglia from the story, which is something I’d have had trouble justifying in most other circumstances.

Family Insurance Services

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
09/03 – 09/08

My duties included filing, answering phones, running errands, sorting mail, faxing, emailing, posting jobs, writing letters, mailing items, organizing etc.

This summer, one of my biggest priorities involved setting up and arranging for the insurance agency to have a booth at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas. I dealt with agents, made working schedules, set up hotel accommodations, ordered supplies, made sure the booth and other necessities were at the show, as well as helped to set up the booth.

Skills

I’m pretty computer savvy. I own and operate on a pc, but I am quite capable of using a Mac. I know Word and Excel, and have not mastered Photoshop as of yet, but I am pretty proficient and have a strong working knowledge of the program.

I have also taken four semesters of Spanish at OU and have a basic understanding of the language.
